RESEARCH
I am interested in performance that responds to its environment as well as the political, cultural, ecological and social histories of a site. My performance work, Sense (an)other (2023) was performed in Albert Park in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland, Aotearoa NZ, on land once known as Rangipuke. The performance began in the dance studio which was transformed into a queer subterranean world before it travelled to the park where audience and performer followed my site-responsive choreography to trees, statues, rocks and the band rotunda. This work endeavoured to foreground the response-ability that we/humans have, as co-extensive partners embedded in ecological networks.
RECOGNITION — Acknowledging teachers, colleagues, artists and work that have influenced my practice as a choreographic researcher and individual.
OPENNESS — Doing research that moves and thinks with unknowns and uncertainties and resists reductive and simplistic judgement of complex issues.
INTENTION — Holding an intention for my research to support its direction and justify its actions.
